We have said goodbye to the sweetest lady, Gladys Pearce, Shoe Center's Founder. Gladys opened Shoe Center in North Myrtle Beach in 1978 on a quest to provide customers with shoes that fit narrow feet because she never could find the perfect fit for herself. She added shoes of all widths and designed the first shag shoe for locals called SHAG. Gladys became one of Mike's retail customers right after she opened the store. Gladys established Shoe Center as one of the only independent shoe stores in Horry County. At age 65 Gladys retired and Mike bought SHOE CENTER in 1998. Mike welcomed Gladys to the sales floor anytime she wanted to work, and she did for a number of years during SOS events. She was an asset and her customers loved her. Mike and I spent a little time with Gladys during her last days sharing precious memories. We will miss our beautiful and sweet friend and mother. Sending heavenly hugs to this wonderful lady. ...
